The direct proximity of Mont Blanc offers Les Contamines an exceptional snow coverage during the winter season. The village of Les Contamines is the departure of many activities in Summer to discover the mountain full of life. The municipality of Contamines has the incredible chance to shelter the nature reserve of the Comtamines-Monjoie, a reserve where you can cross marmot and chamois during a hike on the way to the Jovet lakes and the cascade of black combe. On foot, on mountain bike or on horseback, the Contamines in Summer are a sumptuous destination.

Since the Roman period when Les Contamines was the crossroads of a Roman road linking Genève in Switzerland to Aosta in Italy, the village has changed. The place is now made to discover the riches of this region.
A village in the center of the Mont Blanc landscape
The Val Montjoie Valley is the south-western edge of the Mont Blanc massif and is one of the seven valleys around the summit of Mont Blanc. The only access road is Saint-Gervais-les-Bains from the valley of the Arve, the village of Contamines-Montjoie is the last village of the valley.
The bottom of the valley where the village of Contamines is located extends between 1,100 and 3,892 meters above sea level, many summits are easily accessible by the ski lifts of the ski area. The summits of the ski area offer an excellent panorama the starting point of many treks that can be extended to higher peaks.
- To the east: it is the domain of high mountains: the domes of Miage (3 673 m) and the Aiguille de Bionnassay (4 052 m) located in the Mont Blanc massif.
- To the west: the winter sports resort extends on the slopes of Mont Joly (2,525 m) and allows to reach the Hauteluce ski area by the Col du Joly. The top of the slopes, located on the slopes of the Croche aiguille, offers a panoramic view of the Mont Blanc massif, the Aravis mountain range and the Beaufortain valley.
- To the south: a so-called Roman road leads to the pass of Bonhomme which leads to the pass of Petit-Saint-Bernard. This route also leads to the shelter of the Balme, the pass of the window and the Jovet lakes.
